Extensions, Garages & Orangeries

Built to the highest standards, your new extension, garage or orangery will have the same creative finish and attention to detail as all of our designs.

Extensions

  • Introduction

There are many reasons to extend your home, and it is our job to understand how you would like this new space to work. The great advantage of timber framed extensions is that you can create both beautifully traditional and modern finishes in a time and cost-effective way. We can create a design showing off the beauty of timber with large oak beams and rafters, or with our hardwood orangery designs and roof lanterns. If you would like a contemporary design, then we can create this with a combination of modern claddings and finishes alongside impressive full opening glazing units.

  • Summary

During initial discussions we will be able to determine if planning is required or if the design can be built through permitted development. Our designs can be used to create an invaluable addition to your home.

Starting from the ground up our timber framed extensions can be installed onto our eco ground screw system or traditional foundation. This will be determined once a site survey has been completed to look at ground conditions and access, as well as the type of building being constructed.

The walls of our extensions will be constructed from FSA approved hardwood and softwood timbers and steel work where large openings are required for glazing units such as aluminium bifolding doors.

A popular exterior finish for our extensions is K rend. Traditional render is known to crack as it dries but the combination of exterior render board onto our framework and a high-quality silicone render creates a beautiful, durable finish. Our extensive range of finishes such as Marley boards, Rockpanel, urban steel, hardwood and softwood cladding means there is something for everyone. Not forgetting the beauty of impressive hardwood structures with beams and rafters on show.

Our roof systems are built in the same way as in all of our designs, with high performance products at the core. A space that can be forgotten in our flat roof designs is the space at the top. Have you ever considered a beautiful roof deck with glass balustrades? This is possible by strengthening the joists with engineered timber beams allowing a new addition to your outdoor space.

The selection of timber and aluminium roof lanterns can transform a flat roof into a focal point of the extension bringing in light and height to the build.

It may be that you would like to extend your kitchen where an apex roof, vaulted ceiling and featured king truss would be the perfect structure to house a new kitchen.

If the addition of light is key, then our fully glazed curtain walls with large bifolding doors can create quite an impact and transform your downstairs space to a place where you can really enjoy your garden and surroundings.

Garages

  • Introduction

We use the same engineered framework and claddings, incorporated into our single storey or two storey garages. We can create a truly unique and modern designs built to last a lifetime.

  • Summary

As with all of our designs we start the process by taking the time to understand your requirements. This may be for a single or multiple bay garage, open or closed fronted, with a traditional or modern feel. An Oak framed garage is a very popular appealing choice, but have you considered a more Scandinavian feel with modern lines, urban steel roofing and modern claddings. All options are possible.

Once the design is ready, we will look after the planning application for you, if this is your preferred choice. If you decide on a single storey garage, then most planning applications will fall within the permitted development. If you would like to add a space above the garage, we can help with this. It is an ideal space for an extra bedroom, office, or maybe with a mini apartment with bathroom and kitchen.

The walls of our timber framed garages are constructed to the same quality as a timber framed house, with FSA approved timber structures. Insulation isn’t required in a car port, but it may be something to consider if you would like a section turned into a workshop. For our two storey garages, the upstairs would have the same U values as all of our builds.

We have beautiful claddings in softwood and hardwood, as well as Marley board, colourful Rockpanel, crisp K Rend and industrial urban steel. The range is always increasing with new and exciting products. Combining different finishes can make your design stand out from anything you have seen before. One combination we love is our modern vertical cedar cladding with urban steel standing seem sheeting creating a continuous line with your urban steel roof and hidden box gutters.

We can incorporate rooflights into each style in order to bring in maximum light to your space, ideal for a room above your garage. If you would like to stay with a single storey apex roof, then the void can be a fantastic storage space.  Sometimes the contrast of a traditional slate roof can look exquisite against our modern cedar claddings.

We have an array of garage doors from timber barn style doors, to roller shutter doors, to up and over doors. If you require a two storey then we can supply exterior staircases in hardwoods and metal. Maybe an exterior spiral staircase would be a better, space saving option that adds a different detail to the more traditional staircase. To create a beautiful stand out feature your room above the garage could have a fully glazed aluminium curtain wall.

Orangeries

  • Introduction

An orangery can create a beautiful addition to your home. The contrast of the timber structure against your house will give a feeling of luxury. The hardwood structure could transform your kitchen, dining room or lounge by opening up the house and bringing an abundance of light through the architectural roof lantern, doors and windows.

  • Summary

The orangeries we build may fall within permitted development but if planning permission is required then we are here to support you through this process.

The base for the orangery will be constructed in the more traditional style to support the brick or stone wall.

The frame of our orangeries will be constructed from FSA approved hardwood and softwood timbers. We can advise you on the best timber to use for your design as each will give a different look and feel. As an example, Sapele timber is used for designs where you would like an opaque colour due to its close grain. Idigbo has a lighter colour and works best with lighter stains. Oak with its beautiful warm tones will give a rustic charm to your new space.

Our roof systems are constructed using exquisite architectural roof lanterns. As with the frame we have a variety of finishes and styles to compliment your design. The roof perimeter retains the orangeries clean lines with our box gutter.

Your new orangery will bring a lot of light into your house and give real sense of quality and charm.
